Germany Pension Refund
Non-EU citizens can claim back their German pension contributions (about 9.5% of salary) 2 years after leaving Europe, if they were paid into pension fund for a period under 5 years. Only months in which a contribution was made count towards this period and only the employee contributions are refunded, not the employer's. You should also be aware that working in other EU countries can count towards the 5 year period.
How many years back can I claim my pension refund?
You can apply for unclaimed pension refunds up to 1995.
How long do I need to wait?
It may take up to 6 months until you get the pension refund. The final decision is up to the German Pension Office.
What documents are required to apply?
In order to apply for German pension refund you need to have a copy of your:
- Lohnsteuerbescheinigung or payslip for each year
- Registration and deregistration certificate from Germany
What should I do if I don’t have Lohnsteuerbescheinigung?
- You have to contact the employer as employers are legally obliged to issue you a replacement

How much is the service fee?
