Everyone who is working in Australia is obligated to pay income tax. At the end of the Australian tax year (30th June) you will need to complete a tax return. It is possible to apply for refunds up to 4 years back from the date of tax return.

Your employer can deduct the following taxes
  • Income tax in the amount of 29% to 47%
  • Superannuation tax in the amount of 9% or more

The amount of the taxes you pay depends on
  • How much you earn
  • Whether you have a Tax file number and give it to your employer
  • Whether you are a resident

If you are a future employee or have worked in Australia only during a part of the financial year, then you can receive, on average, around 2500 AU$ .

What is a PAYG form?

A PAYG Form is the annual summary which you receive from your employer at the end of the tax year. It shows the total amount you earned from your employer and the amount of tax your employer paid to the tax office from your earnings.

What is Tax File Number?

A tax file number is your unique reference number in the Australian tax system. We recommend you apply for a TFN to avoid being taxed automatically at the highest rate. The tax file number (TFN) is an 8 or 9 digit number.

What do I need to apply for a Superannuation refund?

To apply for a Superannuation refund, you need the last cumulative payslip from each of your employers. It is important, that the payslips show the amount of paid Superannuation.

How many years back can I apply for a tax refund?

You can go as far back as 4 years in Australia from the date on which you apply.

How long does it take to get the refund?

On average 4-6 months from the time your documents are sent to the Tax Authorities, however, you must understand that each case is different, so times can vary from case to case.

How much is the service fee?

The price is 8% from the refunded amount. There is a minimum fee of 85 AUD.
